iOS 12.4.1 Battery Life Drain Compared To iOS 12.4 On iPhone

Now that Apple has released iOS 12.4.1 to the public there are a couple of questions many people are asking; how does it affect battery life, and is performance improved?

As usual those are questions YouTube channel, iAppleBytes, set out to answer.

In order to do that a number of iPhones were used with both iOS 12.4 and iOS 12.4.1 installed. Geekbench was then used to work out how the new update affected the battery life and performance of all of those phones.

In order to get a good feel for whether the changes impacted older or newer iPhones, five different handsets were used for testing including an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, and an iPhone 8. Would the older iPhones fare worse than their newer counterparts? Would the newer hardware see bigger improvements in battery life than older phones?

As it turns out, not really. In actuality all of the results were pretty much in the realms of normal variances. If you were hoping that iOS 12.4.1 would give your phone a new lease of life in either the battery or performance stakes, you’re likely to be disappointed.

The release of iOS 12.4.1 appears to have been largely to get a new fix into the hands of users. When iOS 12.4 was released, Apple inadvertently opened the door to jailbreakers. That door has now been closed tightly.

If you’re into jailbreaking, stick with iOS 12.4. If you’ve already updated, consider downgrading while you still can.
