iPhone SE To Gain 5G In 2022, Larger 6.1-Inch Display With Hole-Punch Design To Follow In 2023

Apple’s popular iPhone SE will reportedly not be updated until next year, but it will at least gain support for 5G once it is. That’s according to a report by display supply chain analyst Ross Young.

Working for Display Supply Chain Consultants, Young took to Twitter to say that an Apple LCD iPhone leak suggested that the iPhone SE will retain its 4.7-inch display next year.

It will, however, at least gain both mmWave and Sub-5GHz 5G support as part of the update. There’s no suggestion that there will be any form of iPhone SE Plus as had previously been rumored, however.

The same tweet also suggests that a new, larger 6.1-inch screen will be offered in 2023 with a hole-punch design.

That would suggest that the screen will grow thanks to the removal of the need to house a camera above the display. It isn’t clear whether there will still be the traditional Home button below it, however.

The iPhone SE is a popular device thanks to its relatively low asking price and strong capabilities. It’s possible that it might be able to gain support for Face ID by the time 2023 rolls around, but the report by Young doesn’t mention that being the case.
