iPhone X OEM Screen Vs Aftermarket Replacement [Video Comparison]

At this point, more than six months into its lifecycle, we are all well aware of the fact that the iPhone X is not an inexpensive smartphone, but we can all also likely agree that you get what you pay for when it comes to the highest of high-end smartphones.

The same apparently goes for when you have one of those phones repaired, too, with the folks over at ETrade Supply taking three iPhone X handsets and replacing the screens on them. One of those screens was an OEM part, while the other two were third-party aftermarket offerings. As you may expect, the OEM one performs best.

Apple charges a pretty penny for a replacement iPhone X screen if you have the work dine via official and authorized means, but if you go to a third-party aftermarket dealer then the bill will understandably be much lower.

The reason for that is the use of inferior parts, and as ETrade Supply found out, the two third-party screens they tested weren’t even of the OLED variety, perhaps explaining why color performance was sub-par when compared to Apple’s own screen.

The differences don’t end there either. The third-party aftermarket displays were simply lacking some connectors when compared to the Apple part, and perhaps as a result of that things like the ambient light sensor refused to work on the two third-party screen-equipped phones. 3D Touch was also severely hampered by the no-name screens, and that’s before you take into consideration the fact that they are physically thicker than Apple’s.

At the end of the day it is easy to see where corners are cut to make these third-party aftermarket screens less costly than Apple’s parts and that’s something individual iPhone X owners will need to take into consideration when having their iPhone repaired.
