Netflix Games Announced With A Handful Of Titles On Android, iOS Support Coming Soon

Rumors of Netflix looking to get into the world of gaming have been circulating for a while now — and they were right. Netflix Games is a thing and it’s rolling out to the Netflix apps on Android right now.

While no iOS support is available right now, Netflix does say that it is “on the way.”

Netflix says that games will not have any ads, in-app purchases, or additional fees to get in the way of the fun. If that sounds familiar it’s because it’s pretty much the same stance that Apple Arcade takes, giving gamers a corner of the App Store all to themselves for a $4.99 per month fee.

The difference here is that the games are included in your Netflix subscription — at least for now.

The number of games available right now is small, but we can expect that to grow in due course. Right now, Stranger Things: 1984,” “Stranger Things 3: The Game,” “Shooting Hoops,” “Card Blast,” and “Teeter Up” are all there is.

While this all works fine on Android, it’ll be interesting to see how Netflix fares getting its games into the App Store. The likes of GameClub have already had to deal with this, and it meant putting its games into the App Store as separate downloads. It remains to be seen whether Netflix will go a similar route or use a web-based solution and opt for streaming instead.
