No USB-C Or Fast Charger With 2019 iPhone, Says New Report

Those hoping that the 2019 iPhones will ship with USB-C connectors look set to be disappointed, if a new report by Macotakara turns out to be accurate.

According to the report, the next round of iPhones will continue to use Lightning, with a USB-A to Lightning cable shipped in the box. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Apple will also cheap out on the power brick that it includes.

Apple has received quite a bit of bad press through the last year or so over its decision not to ship any sort of fast charging power adapter in the box along with its new iPhones. The standard 5W iPhone charger looks set to continue to make an unwanted appearance in 2019, according to the report, despite Apple’s iPhones being able to charge more quickly if attached to more powerful chargers.

While the lack of a move to USB-C will be disappointing, it won’t be entirely unexpected. Unfortunately, neither would the existence of yet another 5W charger in the box of the 2019 iPhones, with Apple having been accused of making savings on the adapters that it offers for free.

Competing manufacturers offer fast charging power adapters in the boxes of their flagship models, allowing users to get the most out of their phones’ ability to charge quickly. By contrast, iPhone owners have to buy an additional charger and likely a new cable, too.

It’s unlikely that any savings in cost would be passed on to the customer here either, especially considering that hasn’t been the case in recent years. With Apple trying to claw as much money from slowing iPhone sales as possible, we can’t imagine it deviating from its current path this year, either.
