Older Teslas Are Getting A UI Performance Boost Thanks To A Famous Video Game Engineer
People with older Tesla cars are set to get an improved performance across the vehicle’s UI thanks to game engineer John Carmack.
According to a new report by Electrek, Carmack drives a Tesla Model S and has confirmed that he is working with Tesla engineers on a way to improve the in-car performance of older Model S cars, like the one that he drives right now.
“I did kind of volunteer to help them fix what I consider very poor user interface performance on the older model S (that I drive). Their engineers have been sharing data with me.”
While Tesla does offer software upgrades to older cars as a matter of course, that has sometimes led to a performance that is less than great on some cars with the older media control unit — including the year of Model S that Carmack is driving around in.
There is indeed an optional upgrade package that Carmack could surely afford seeing as he created Doom and Quake, but the $2,500 upgrade fee is likely to put plenty of other drivers off.
Some are speculating that this collaboration could eventually lead to Carmack working at Tesla officially, at least in some capacity.
