Pixelmator Pro 2.3 Update Adds Support For Smart Subject Selection, Background Removal, More
Popular image manipulation app Pixelmator Pro has received a new version 2.3 update that is now available for download in the App Store. The new update brings with it some new image editing features including a new automatic background removal tool.
The new update was announced via a blog post with that new background eraser being the star of the show.
With today’s update, you can now magically remove the background from any image with just a click. We’ve trained a convolutional neural network to find the subject in pretty much any image and automatically remove its background. In fact – we’ve created three separate machine learning models to each do its little bit of magic.
The new update also includes an automatic subject selection feature that will make a selection of a subject in any image “with just a click.” A new Select and Mask tool is also present.
To make it possible to make incredibly accurate selections of any object, we’ve created a new Select and Mask tool. This is designed to make it easy to select the most difficult areas of all – hair, fur, and similar objects with very complex edges. Here, you’ll find a completely redesigned Smart Refine feature and other tools that make it a breeze to select even the most challenging areas of an image.
There are more new features, plus an explanation of “how the magic happens” over on the announcement blog post. The updated Pixelmator Pro is available for download from the Mac App Store and is a free update for existing users. For everyone else, a 50% discount makes the app just $19.99.
