Samsung Announces Galaxy Note20 / Ultra, Galaxy Watch3, Galaxy Buds Live, Tab S7 / S7+, Galaxy Z Fold2

Samsung held its Unpacked event today, with the company showcasing a ton of new products in an action-packed event. We knew what was going to be announced thanks to numerous leaks and the fact the Galaxy Note20 embargo ended before the event started But that didn’t make the announcements any less important.

Perhaps the most important is the arrival of the Galaxy Note20 and Galaxy Note20 Ultra, starting at $999 and going up to $1,299 at the entry-level models respectively.

The standard model comes with a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus screen that also supports HDR10+. The processor is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+ which should make it nice and quick, while RAM comes in at 8GB. There’s no microSD card, but storage options max out at 256GB.

The Galaxy Note20 Ultra is the king. The specs start with the 6.9-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen and the same Snapdragon 865+ chip. Storage maxes out at 512GB, with microSD cards supported for those who need a little more room to breathe.

Cameras are very similar across both devices with the same 10-megapixel shooter around the front. Things differ around the back, though.

The Galaxy Note20 offers up the following:

  • 12-megapixel ultra wide: 1.4μm pixel size; 120-degree FOV; f/2.2 aperture
  • 2-megapixel wide-angle: super speed DPAF; OIS; 1.8μm pixel size; f/1.8 aperture; 79-degree FOV
  • 64-megapixel telephoto: 0.8μm pixel size; 76-degree FOV; f/2.0 aperture

Things are ratcheted up a notch with the Galaxy Note20 Ultra, as you might expect given the extra $300.

  • 12-megapixel ultra wide: 1.4μm pixel size; f/2.2 aperture; 120-degree FOV
  • 12-megapixel telephoto: 1.0μm pixel size; f/3.0 aperture; 20-degree FOV
  • 108-megapixel wide-angle: PDAF; OIS; 79-degree FOV; f/1.8 aperture; 0.8μm pixel size

Both phones go on sale on August 21, too.

Samsung also announced the Galaxy Z Fold2 but didn’t tell us too much about it, including how much it will cost. We do know that there will be a 6.2-inch screen on the front of this thing, but that’s about it. Samsung says we will get more information in due course.

Also thrown into the mix is the new Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ with a 120Hz 12.4-inch display.

According to Samsung these new devices “are two versatile tablets that combine the power of a PC, the flexibility of a tablet, and the connectivity of a smartphone. Building on Samsung’s legacy of Galaxy 5G leadership, Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ will be unlocking seamless videoconferencing, fast downloads, and virtually lag-free streaming.”

There’s a new watch, too, in the form of the Galaxy Watch3. There will be a stainless steel option as well as one in titanium, while two screens of 45mm and 41mm are also options to consider. It’ll run Samsung’s Tizen Wearable OS 5.5, so that’s a thing. But given nobody seems to buy smart watches that aren’t Apple Watches, does it really matter? Pricing starts at $449 and the watches will go on sale tomorrow.

More interesting are the Galaxy Buds Live, earbuds that look like kidney beans and come in Mystic Bronze, Mystic Black, and Mystic White colors.

Samsung says we can expect around six hours of listening from a single charge and up to 21 hours when you take the case’s batter into consideration. You’ll get a full hour of listening from a five-minute charge, too. Similar to the watch, these earbuds go on sale tomorrow costing $169.99.
