Samsung Takes The Crown Back From Apple’s iPhone X As Galaxy S9 Display Ranked As Best In A Smartphone By DisplayMate

Samsung’s recently announced new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S9, brings with it few external changes when compared to the outgoing king of the lineup, the Galaxy S8.

While there are plenty of changes internally, not least the arrival of a new CPU and camera setup, it’s the improvement of one semi-internal, semi-external part that is receiving plenty of positive attention right now.

According to a report by DisplayMate, the display used on the new Galaxy S9 is the best yet, ousting the previously best-ranked display used in Apple’s iPhone X. DisplayMate says that the Galaxy S9 is the first to receive all green ratings in its lab tests and measurement categories.

Last year’s top dog, the iPhone X, also happens to possess a screen that is built by Samsung, although it was designed by Apple engineers, and DisplayMate last year lauded it as the “best performing smartphone display” yet. 2018 appears to be Samsung’s year though thanks to one of the displays placed into one of its own high-end smartphones.

Based on our extensive Lab Tests and Measurements, the Galaxy S9 has an Impressive Display that establishes many new Display Performance Records, earning DisplayMate’s Best Performing Smartphone Display Award, and receiving our highest ever A+ grade.

According to DisplayMate, the display used in the Galaxy S9 set new records in a number of categories, including highest contrast ratio, lowest screen reflectance and larges native color gamut. With comments such as the one where DisplayMate claims the Galaxy S9’s display’s color accuracy is “visually indistinguishable from perfect,” it is fair to say that this is one impressive panel.

It’s unknown whether similar panels will be used in future iPhones, given Apple’s use of a Samsung OLED in the iPhone X, but we suspect the 2018 OLED iPhone(s) will offer similarly impressive results come the end of the year.
