The dedicated team behind the Sileo third-party package manager has made an unexpected announcement. With immediate effect, the Sileo app can now be installed on non-jailbroken iPhone and iPad hardware.
If you have been involved in the world of iOS jailbreaking over the last 6-12 months then you will have undoubtedly heard the name Sileo mentioned. The third-party package manager was originally billed as the rightful heir to the Cydia throne and although it hasn’t really turned out that way just yet, it’s still endorsed by the Electra Team and is still in active development.
This latest announcement in the Sileo roadmap shows that the team is thinking beyond just the world of jailbroken devices and predicates that non-jailbroken users can still gain value for Sileo as an app.
The release has come in the form of a dedicated Sileo IPA file which can be installed directly to the iPhone or iPad as long as it is running a compatible version of Apple’s iOS platform. This can be achieved by sideloading the packing using the popular Cydia Impactor or by uploading the IPA to an online site which the signs it with an Enterprise certificate and lets you install directly from the web service to your device. As highlighted by the Sileo team, the app still needs a jailbroken device to install tweaks and packages but “everything else should work” on standard devices:
Users may now try out Sileo on non-jailbroken devices on iOS 11.0-12.2 beta 3!
Installing packages requires the jailbroken version, but everything else else should work on the non-jailbroken version!

A follow-up statement to that release statement then confirmed that the non-jailbroken version doesn’t come with a list of pre-installed repositories and that iPhone and iPad owners would be best placed noting the repo addresses down in the Notes app and then using the batch upload function to get them into Sileo all at once. And, as long as Sileo is open or in the background and still in memory, package update notifications will still continue to work. This release comes at the same time as the team pushing a number of updates to Sileo, including fixes for UI issues on iPhone and iPad.
