Sony Has Sold 10 Million PS5 Consoles Making It The Fastest-Selling PlayStation Yet
Sony has now sold more than 10 million PS5 consoles, according to a new report. That’s a significant increase on the 7.8 million consoles that were touted back in April.
Perhaps more importantly, it also means that the PS5 continues to out-pace the sales of the PS4 and, in turn, becomes the fastest-selling console that Sony has ever made.
That’s a fact that’s made all the more amazing considering the problems that people have had trying to actually buy these things. Stocks have been almost nonexistent since launch and while things have begun to settle down a tad, your chances of walking into a store and buying a PS5 are still pretty slim.
Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan told The Verge that the company continues to work to fix supply issues.
The PS5 may be selling well, but supply is constrained and it’s still difficult to purchase a console right now thanks to a global chip shortage. “While PS5 has reached more households faster than any of our previous consoles, we still have a lot of work ahead of us as demand for PS5 continues to outstrip supply,” says Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “I want gamers to know that while we continue to face unique challenges throughout the world that affect our industry and many others, improving inventory levels remains a top priority for SIE.”
By comparison, Microsoft hasn’t told anyone how many Xbox Series S and Series X consoles it has sold. That being said, Daniel Ahmad, a senior analyst at Niko Partner, thinks the total was around 6.5 million as of June 30.
