Apple has removed the Apple TV Remote app from the App Store, perhaps in an attempt to remind everyone that they can do the same thing from Control Center nowadays.
The move was spotted by 9to5Mac and with Control Center also offering a remote since the arrival of iOS 12 two years ago, it shouldn’t be all that surprising.
Apple has also been clearing out its support documentation to remove references to the app, too.
9to5Mac found that Apple has also removed almost all references to the Apple TV Remote app, suggesting that the company has in fact discontinued it. A 9to5Mac reader told us that he contacted Apple support to ask about the app, but not even the support agent could explain what happened.
Functionally, nothing has really changed here. The Remote can be accessed via Control Center just fine and works well, even while an iPhone or iPad is locked. That isn’t something the app was capable of doing so, arguably, this route is better.
Anyone who has the app installed on their devices will still be able to use it without issue, but it won’t be available to those installing it afresh. It also suggests that people won’t be able to install the app when they upgrade to a new device, too.
