What To Expect From Apple’s October 30th ‘There’s More In The Making’ Event

We now have confirmation that Apple will indeed be holding an event on October 30th, as had been rumored for weeks. We don’t know exactly what the company will announce and Apple didn’t make anything clear when sending out its media invitations, but we do have some inkling based on many, many rumors. If the rumors are as accurate as people would hope, we will see new iPad Pro tablets as well as new Macs, with updated AirPods also in the cards.

While it’s obviously impossible to know for sure just what Apple will be announcing, here’s what the smart money is on as we edge nearer to the big day.

New iPad Pros

The iPad Pro is very much expected to be the biggest announcement at the event, with a new, bezel-free design also allowing for the removal of the Home button and the arrival of Face ID. Improved performance is a given, and it’s looking ever more likely that we will see USB-C make its debut outside of Apple’s notebook lineup for the first time.

Unfortunately, we don’t expect to see OLED make an appearance, but a refreshed Apple Pencil is a fairly good bet, especially if the arrival of USB-C also means the removal of the Lightning port this time around. Screen sizes are expected to be much the same as previous years, with an 11-inch and 12.9-inch model in the works.

New MacBook

While we don’t know what the new MacBook will actually be called, it looks increasingly likely that it will be a replacement for the current MacBook Air line and at an entry-level price-point. There’s expected to be a new high-resolution display, which should mean the MacBook Air replacement will finally go Retina, but beyond that, information is decidedly sketchy. Whether that means such a device won’t arrive just yet, we’ll just have to wait and see.

New Mac mini

The Mac mini has not seen a refresh for four years at this point and while it is easy to think that Apple has forgotten about it, the rumors have the computer finally receiving some attention this month. Bloomberg is of the belief that its refresh will also see a focus on professional use, although it’s unclear what that actually means. Mac minis have historically found a home as servers for many peoples and plenty of businesses run on them. They also work as home media centers, so hopefully any move into the professional market does not mean we see increased prices, too.

Accessories

Along with a new Apple Pencil, rumors of an updated AirPods release just will not go away. Water resistance is a given at this point, as is the inclusion of a wireless charging case. This was announced alongside AirPower what feels like a lifetime ago, although there’s little suggestion that we will see the ill-fated wireless charger any time soon.
